We loved it“We were on tour and had a couple of days off. We stayed for four days in Osijek and we couldn't had find a better place for us (4 people) to stay in. Very nice host and nice location with only a few minutes walk to the center of the city. If we ever come back to Osijek, this would probably be the place for us! / REPAY” ![]() Repay band Sweden |
Secession in Osijek has left remarkable achievements, not only in architecture but also in urbanism, art, sculpture and painting. Already at the end of the 19th century certain stylistic features of the Secession appeared, primarily as decoration of the facades of the building.
Secession in Osijek lasted in continuity from that "protospartical" phase around 1900 until the 1930s and "late-century" accomplishments in which still there were signs of secessionist stylistic features. The architecture of the Osijek secession shows the influences of the Viennese secession, the Munich Jugendstil and the Peasant Secession.
Effects are partly a result of the Vienna education of two leading architects of Wilhelm Carla Hofbauer and Ante Slaviček and Munich education of the third leading personality of Osijek's secessionist architecture and urbanism - Viktor Axmann. It is also important to point out certain localities that are reflected in the repertoire of decorative motifs "slavonski polja i voda".
"Although it is geographically distant from modern architectural sources in European centers, the architecture of the Osijek secession succeeded in catching up with them.
